Comprehensive Vision & Eye Health Examinations

Eye examinations are generally recommended on a yearly basis. As a new patient, you will undergo a thorough vision and health exam to determine the exact condition of your eyes. Our doctors use the most advanced instruments to test for cataracts, glaucoma, retinal disease, macular degeneration, and other potential eye conditions.

Following your exam, our doctors will discuss their findings, vision correction options, and answer any question you may have. We are proud of our doctors and we pledge to provide the finest personalized eyecare to all of our patients!

Pediatric Vision & Eye Health Examinations

The American Optometric Association recommends that children should receive their first complete eye exam by age 4, or sooner if symptoms are noticed, since 80% of what children learn is through vision.

Our caring staff makes the child's visit a not-so-scary experience. We use special kid-friendly instruments to gather data on visual health, binocular function, and eye coordination...all of which are critical to learning. We only prescribe glasses when they are truly necessary, and we dispense high quality frames and lenses with kid tough guarantees.

We also fit children and teenages with contact lenses and teach them to handle them safely. Our selection of childrens frames and sunglasses is one of the largest in the area.

Kowa Digital Retinal Imaging Camera

In our continued efforts to bring the most advanced technology available to our patients, Boise Mountain Eyecare is proud to announce the addition of the Kowa Digital Retinal Imaging Camera as an integral part of your examination today.

This latest high-resolution camera offers the best detailed images possible to view conditions such as:

diabetic retinal disease • high blood pressure retinal disease
macular degeneration • glaucoma • retinal detachments and holes • floaters

Your doctor recommends the digital retinal camera for all ages because it provides:

• An eye wellness scan.
• The ability for you to view your retinal image with your doctor during the examination.
• An annual permanent digital record for your medical file to compare and track potential eye diseases over time.
• The ability to e-mail these images to other physicians managing your overall health.

The camera's low flash technology makes the photography fast, easy and comfortable.

Insurances may or may not cover any advanced technology beyond the general eye examination.

New technologies are changing the field of contact lenses at an amazing rate. With the advent of new polymers and wearing schedules, almost everyone can enjoy the freedom, comfort, and convenience of contact lenses. After your examination, we will be happy to discuss contact lenses and, if applicable, offer you a trial pair to "test drive."

At Boise Mountain Eyecare you are not just buying contact lenses-you are buying the expertise and competency of the doctor who's prescribing them specifically for your needs.

Laser Vision Correction Consultations & Management

Most people with vision correction issues are wanting to know more about LASIK and whether it is right for them. Here is a brief description of the procedure;

A flap is surgically cut in the cornea and gently folded back. An Excimer Laser is used to reshape the cornea into a flatter shape (this is much like a contact lens corrects vision by forming a new shape on the cornea). The flap is then put back in place, acting like a natural bandage. The healing process is quick and the discomfort level is quite low.
People will often say that they did not feel anything, and could see well the very first day. Most people have improved vision in 24-48 hours. but it must be noted that each person will heal at a different rate. Vision, although greatly improved immediately after surgery, often continues to improve for some weeks, even months.

LASIK is not for everyone. People's eyes are different so even though you may have had a friend who has had LASIK, it may not be the best course of treatment for you.

Many of our patients are interested in laser vision correction to reduce their dependence on corrective lenses. If you are a good candidate, LASIK could be for you. After your examination, feel free to ask us about refractive surgery and what it can do for you. We will select an experienced and trustworthy eye surgeon for you and arrange for the state-of-the-art follow-up right here at our practice.

Comprehensive Care For Eye Diseases

Our doctors are trained and licensed to detect eye diseases and prescribe medications for the eye. We specialize in removing embedded foreign objects from the eye, diagnosing and treating red eyes, eye infections, allergies, dry eyes, and all forms of medical eye problems.

Cataracts: The natural lens in the eye gradually becomes less clear as we get older. The lens gets more hazy and allows less light to travel into the back of the eye, which impairs vision. If cataracts have affected the quality of your vision, we will select an experienced eye surgeon for you and arrange for the world class follow-up right here at our practice. Cataract surgery can provide you with a bright new world of vision.

Glaucoma: Glaucoma gradually destroys the optic nerve tissue in the back of the eye. The greatest danger of glaucoma stems from the fact that the disease is painless and without obvious symptoms until significant damage has occurred.
The most common cause is from pressure being too high inside the eye, but vascular disease and other diseases can also cause glaucoma. We always monitor for glaucoma during routine eye examinations. Tests include checking the pressure of the eye, screening for peripheral vision defects and analyzing the appearance of the optic nerve. Most forms of glaucoma are successfully treated with eye drops, however laser treatments and eye surgery are alternative treatment options.

Diabetes: Diabetic patients should have a dilated eye examination each year. Diabetes often stimulates the growth of new blood vessels in the back of the eye that can ultimately leak and damage the retina. If this condition is discovered early, lasers can be used to treat these abnormal vessels.
At Boise Mountain Eyecare we use the latest instruments available to detect changes in the back of the eye. If we discover advancing diabetic eye disease that can be treated or needs further evaluation, we will select a retinal specialist for you.

Age Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD): ARMD is a hereditary disease that affects more than 14 million people in the U.S. The area of best central vision, or macula, is compromised by finger-like projections that can distort central vision and lead to blindness.
Recent studies have shown that Ultra-Violet (UV) Light and lack of antioxidants in the diet can increase your risks of developing this sight threatening disease. Therefore, sunglasses and multivitamin supplements containing antioxidants are recommended to slow down the advancement of ARMD and ultimately prevent blindness.

Emergency Services for Eye Injuries & Infections

Immediate emergency service is provided to our patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please call our office at 208-938-9900 during office hours, or our emergency number 208-870-9876 after hours or on weekends.
State-of-the-art microscopes allow us to examine the front surface of the eye and facial areas around the eye for infection or injury. After assessing the extent of the injury or infection a treatment plan will be formulated and explained to you. Treatment may include medications and supportive care. Follow-up visits to monitor your recovery will be scheduled as needed.

Insurance-Payments

We work with most of the major insurance companies. There are, however, many different insurance companies and just as many different plans within each company. This can make it difficult for our staff to know all of the allowed fees.
Before your examination, we recommend that you review your benefits with a representative from your insurance company or contact your benefits office at your place of employment to obtain a description of your benefits.

Please be advised that a description of benefits is not a guarantee of payment or eligibility. Our staff is always ready to help you. Please call our office for more details!

Insurances we work with include Vision Service Plan (VSP), Regence BlueShield, BlueCross, Medicare, Medicaid, Davis Vision, Tricare, Aetna, United Healthcare, Cigna, Humana, Riverside Benefits, and others!
We accept cash, check, credit cards, debit cards, and medical flex account cards. Now offering financing with CareCredit!

Dry Eye Syndrome

The time has never been better for treating dry eye syndrome.  For the first time, we have treatments that specifically and effectively address dry eye disease, the lack of tears over the eyes or an abnormal tear film.  In addition to tens of millions of current dry eye sufferers, the incidence of dry eye is increasing.  Baby Boomers, 78 million strong, are the largest group and of these, roughly 40 million are menopausal women, the group with the highest incidence of dry eye.  But let's not forget about women in general, those who have had children, those taking oral contraceptives, who wear contact lenses, or have a high caffeine intake.  Whatever your age or gender, dry eye syndrome can be treated.

Factors such as medications, gender, environment, and diet can have negative effects on eye dryness.  Recent advancements in dry eye treatment have been successful for many patients.  Treatment options can include the new advanced artificial tears available, eyelid hygiene, punctal plugs (blocking the tear ducts to concentrate the limited tears available), advanced contact lenses, prescription medications such as Restasis, and lifestyle enhancements have all been proven effective.
